Profile
Who....?
I am a recent graduate of Grand Valley State University with a B.A. in Classics (Classical Languages Emphasis). I am a vibrant, ambitious individual, a self-starter with a passion for learning, experiencing, and accomplishing things. I have 8 years of experience in the field of website and graphic design, including a four-year period where I worked as a Student Website Designer on the Webteam at GVSU. During that time I had the opportunity to work under accomplished mentors and learn about standards-compliant website development, object oriented programming, and Web 2.0 design practices. I have maintained my own freelance studio for 8 years, taking on clients as time permitted within my busy schedule as student, violin teacher, and farmer.
Why Classics?
The ancient philosopher Socrates famously said, "The unexamined life is not worth living." It is my firm belief that the study of Classics is valuable not only for pursuing an examined life but also for providing me with the skills needed to excel in the workplace of today's rapidly changing business climate. My education has endowed me with valuable critical thinking skills, the ability to construe meaning from difficult texts, above average writing and analytical skills, and the ability to produce excellent work under pressure. I feel that my degree, while unorthodox, has helped me become a very well-rounded and articulate individual, able to thrive in the workplace.
